Summer Bash

13 September @ 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Join us for our annual all-ages field day, where squadrons battle it out for field-day glory!

Compete in our squadron sports competitions including volleyball, flag football, basketball, Archery Tag, Esports, & much more! Plus, enjoy a FREE lunch, chili cook-off, and all day Kids Zone with games & bounce houses!

Dependents ages 17+ are welcome to compete in the squadron sports competitions for their sponsor’s squadron!

CHILI COOKOFF

Have a Kevin Malone-level chili recipe that you’re just dying to share? Compete in our Summer Bash Chili Cookoff!

Competitors will cook up a minimum of 1 gallon of their very best homemade chili prior to the event to be brought and served for judging at lunch! Chili must meet the criteria for one of the following competition categories:

 

CHILI COMPETITION CATEGORIES

  • Traditional Red Chili: any kind of meat or combination of meats, red chilies, spices, and vegetables. Beans and non-vegetable fillers such as rice or pasta are not allowed.
  • Homestyle Chili: any kind of meat or combination of meats, beans, chilies, spices, and vegetables. Beans are required and should be clearly visible.
  • Chili Verde: any kind of meat or combination of meats, green chilies, spices, and vegetables. Beans and non-vegetable fillers such as rice or pasta are not allowed.
  • Veggie Chili: any kind of vegetable, chilies, spices, and use of meatless “meat” substitutes is allowed. Beans are allowed.

 

RULES

  • Each squadron may have up to 4 teams in the competition, one team for each type of chili
  • Teams must provide at least 1 gallon of their chili for judging
  • Teams must consist of at least 2 people, but may have an unlimited number of team members
  • Civilians and spouses may compete for their/their sponsor’s squadron
  • A winning team will be chosen for each chili category by the judges, as well as a Best Overall winner of those 4
  • The People’s Choice winner will be determined by popular vote

 

JUDGING CRITERIA

  • Meat & veggies should be tender, not too firm, and not too mushy
  • Should have distinct chili flavor
  • Sauce should not be too thin or too thick
  • Should have a balanced ratio of sauce to meat
  • The heat from spices should not be bland but also not too hot
  • Chili should look appealing with a pleasing aroma
  • No garnish allowed for judging
