Summer Griffin Games

Join us for the Summer Griffin Games (formerly known as Summer Bash), our annual all-ages field day where squadrons battle it out for field-day glory!

Compete in our squadron sports competitions, including flag football, Archery Tag, Esports & MtG tournaments, sand volleyball, & much more!

Plus, enjoy a FREE lunch, wing cook-off, and a Kids Zone with a bounce house, games, and more!

Dependents ages 18+ are welcome to compete in the main competitions for their sponsor’s squadron.

WING COOK-OFF RULES & REGULATIONS

Think your wings have what it takes to rule the roost? Fire up the fryer and compete in our Griffin Games Wing Cook-Off!

Competitors will cook up a minimum of 10 homemade, bone-in wings (5 flats and 5 drumsticks) to be served to our volunteer judges from the Military Affairs Committee!

RULES

  • Each Squadron is allowed one team. Dependents and family members may enter on behalf of their sponsor’s squadron.
  • There will be a Cook’s Meeting prior to the event on 17 August @ 2pm in the Fitness Center Conference Room. Teams will discuss rules and address any questions.
  • Wings must be fully cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F prior to team arrival and set up time. There will be no cooking on site at Griffin Games.
  • Wings will be plated and served for judging from 12:30pm to 1pm at Liberty Square Pavilion

COOKING & PREPARATION

  • Must cook bone-in wings. Submissions require a minimum of 5 flats and 5 drummies in the box (no whole wings). More than 10 wings are allowed!
  • Wings can be cooked on any heat source.
  • Chicken must be cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165°F prior to team arrival and set up time.
  • Each team will make one chicken type/flavor, unless they are making both a Regular and a Vegan submission.
  • Any form of chicken that is pre-made or store-bought (pre-cooked) is strictly prohibited. NO BACON-WRAPPED WINGS.

PLATING & JUDGING

  • Wings may be sauced and garnished for judging.
  • Contestants will serve each judge exactly 1 wing.
  • Judging plates/boxes will be provided to each contestant.
  • Each contestant is responsible for verifying that the number on the bottom of their judging plate matches their assigned contestant number.
  • The cookoff will be judged by 3 volunteers from the Military Affairs Committee (MAC). No known relatives of a participating cook will be allowed to judge or keep score.
  • Blind judging procedures will be used. Judging will be tracked by an official scorecard.
  • Entries will be judged based on Appearance, Taste, and Tenderness (Consistency)
  • Awards are based on a point system:
    1st Place: 7 points
    2nd Place: 5 points
    3rd Place: 3 points
    Participation: 1 point

CHIN UP CHALLENGE

**Chin-up challenge logging will be unavailable 3 – 7 August due to Operation Hardwood Classic**

Want to earn bonus points for your squadron?

Stop by the Fitness Center Front Desk Monday – Friday during manned hours to participate in the Chin-Up Challenge!

How to participate:

  • Stop by the Front Desk Monday – Friday | 5:30am to 9pm
  • Have a Fitness Center staff member observe and log your reps
  • Stop in again all month long to add to your score
  • The challenge culminates at Griffin Games, where the squadron with the highest total of chin-ups will receive bonus points towards their Griffin Games score!
  • Recognition will be awarded to the top individual male and female competitors
